On Wednesday 20 August year six students Frankie, Archie and Luka competed in the HEC Science Competition against students from eleven other Hills schools. The first task was to complete a laser beam maze and to hit a target. The second task was to unlock a padlock by completing four different scientific challenges or experiments and receiving one digit of the code each task. Students were awarded points based on their teamwork as well as scientific approach to each challenge. Overall Parkerville came third.

On 7 May we celebrated Scarlett’s birthday with a Friendship Day. Students were invited to make friendship bracelets and share them with their friends. We had Taylor Swift music playing as we enjoyed making and sharing. A big thank you to Charlotte Van Der Burgt for working tirelessly to ensure the day was a success.
Parkerville Primary School will continue to celebrate Friendship Day on May 7 in honour of Scarlett.

We held our school public speaking trials on Wednesday 20 May, and the standard was impressively high, so it made the choice very difficult.
Congratulations to Miah T (Senior participant) and Georgia S (Junior participant) who represented our school so fantastically at the HEC Public Speaking Competition, hosted by Wooroloo PS on Wednesday 28 May. We are very proud of their efforts.
Our annual walk to school day combined with our Pirate Day fundraiser for childhood brain cancer was another resounding success. Our students, parents and even smaller siblings made the scariest pirates as they walked from Parkerville Hall to school. Thank you to our P&C, in particular Robyn Renton and Anita Shurlock for coordinating the day. Thank you also to Woolworths Mundaring who provided the students with fruit after the event.
The school raised $287. 00 for the Kids Cancer Project.

Kindy – Year 2s took part in an Ocean Incursion in Term 1. We learnt about lots of living creatures from the ocean, and the art room was transformed into a museum. There were lots of shells, bones and rocks for us to touch. We also got to rub a star fish, and watch a hermit crab scurry around in its shell. We even got to touch a turtle shell, and feel a huge sharks jaw with hundreds of sharp teeth. Lots of fun had by everyone.

On Wednesday 22 May we participated, along with 2,359,147 students from around Australia, in the National Simultaneous Storytime. We read the book Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker, simultaneously with other participants and activities were completed across the school. Please visit our library to see some of the great art projects completed.
