On Wednesday 20 August year six students Frankie, Archie and Luka competed in the HEC Science Competition against students from eleven other Hills schools. The first task was to complete a laser beam maze and to hit a target. The second task was to unlock a padlock by completing four different scientific challenges or experiments and receiving one digit of the code each task. Students were awarded points based on their teamwork as well as scientific approach to each challenge. Overall Parkerville came third.

On 7 May we celebrated Scarlett’s birthday with a Friendship Day. Students were invited to make friendship bracelets and share them with their friends. We had Taylor Swift music playing as we enjoyed making and sharing. A big thank you to Charlotte Van Der Burgt for working tirelessly to ensure the day was a success.
Parkerville Primary School will continue to celebrate Friendship Day on May 7 in honour of Scarlett.

We held our school public speaking trials on Wednesday 20 May, and the standard was impressively high, so it made the choice very difficult.
Congratulations to Miah T (Senior participant) and Georgia S (Junior participant) who represented our school so fantastically at the HEC Public Speaking Competition, hosted by Wooroloo PS on Wednesday 28 May. We are very proud of their efforts.
Our annual walk to school day combined with our Pirate Day fundraiser for childhood brain cancer was another resounding success. Our students, parents and even smaller siblings made the scariest pirates as they walked from Parkerville Hall to school. Thank you to our P&C, in particular Robyn Renton and Anita Shurlock for coordinating the day. Thank you also to Woolworths Mundaring who provided the students with fruit after the event.
The school raised $287. 00 for the Kids Cancer Project.

Thank-you to Anita Shurlock who has organised the Mother’s Day stall from Wednesday to Friday in Week 2 (7-9 May). Thank-you to her army of volunteers who will man the stall and who have made gifts. Gifts will range from $4 to $20. The stall will be open on a class by class basis each morning from Wednesday to Friday. Teachers have nominated their preferred day and time and will notify parents through Seesaw.

National Simultaneous Storytime is on 21 May this year! On this special day, students and teachers all read the same book, fostering a sense of community and excitement around reading. It’s the perfect way to get our kids excited about books and learning! This year it will be held on Wednesday 21 May 2025. Our classes will all read “The Truck Cat“ by Deborah Frenkel at the same time in unison with the Nation.
Over the last two years we have combined these two days and conducted a walking pirate ship. It was extremely good fun and very successful. This year, our commitment to Pirate Day for Childhood Brain Cancer is still very important and more personal than ever. Our walking Pirate Ship and Pirate Day fundraiser will be held on Friday 16 May. We will start the walking ship from the Parky Hall, and walk the path that goes past the old school building.
Kindy – Year 2s took part in an Ocean Incursion in Term 1. We learnt about lots of living creatures from the ocean, and the art room was transformed into a museum. There were lots of shells, bones and rocks for us to touch. We also got to rub a star fish, and watch a hermit crab scurry around in its shell. We even got to touch a turtle shell, and feel a huge sharks jaw with hundreds of sharp teeth. Lots of fun had by everyone.
