Red Cross Pillow Case Project – Year 3

On Tuesday 28 our year 3 students will participate in the Red Cross Pillow Case Project.

This one hour workshop is delivered by trained Australian Red Cross volunteers and is designed to help children prepare for, cope with and respond to emergencies.

The workshop has been developed with links to the Australia and State-based Curriculum Learning areas, in particular Health & Physical Education and Humanities & Social Sciences.

The workshop has been shown to strengthen students’ preparedness knowledge, lessen fears relating to emergencies, and has led to better responses in an emergency.  For more information about the workshop, visit redcross.org.au/pillowcase-workshops/

Purple Day

Our school was excited to participate in the annual campaign that raises awareness and funds to support those living with epilepsy in Australia.  The theme for 2025 is “Purple Heroes,” which honours the individuals who face the daily challenges of epilepsy, including those with epilepsy, their families, medical professionals, and support staff such as teachers.  We were proud to embrace the “Purple Heroes” spirit and take part in the Purple Challenge to show our support.  All funds raised will go toward vital epilepsy support services, education, training, and research into finding a cure.  We are delighted to have raised a significant amount  and sincerely thank everyone for their generous contributions.

Harmony Day – March 2025

As part of our celebrations for Harmony Day, we listened to the song “Everyone Belongs” by Glyn Lehmann and talked about the lyrics. The song is about how everyone is different yet belongs and can sing their own song and live in harmony with others.
The lyrics celebrate individuality and culture while emphasising that when together we should celebrate our diversity.
We then got to decorate a handprint which we displayed in a big circle, showing that we all belong and are a part of our family, our friends, our school, our community and our world.

The PBS Faction reward milestone of a crazy hair day was reached by all factions and we celebrated on Friday 23 May.  It was fantastic to see all of the creative hair styles and amazing wigs that made it to school that day!

Our next faction milestone reward is a Just Dance Party.

ROAR Student Leadership Summit – March 2025

In March, the Year 6 Student Councillor team participated in the ROAR Student Leadership Summit at the Mundaring Arena.  Four schools took part in this event: Mundaring, Helena Valley, Gidgegannup, and Parkerville Primary Schools.  The students were organised into diverse teams, where they collaborated to address various challenges.  Throughout the event, they demonstrated strong leadership by applying critical and higher order thinking to develop strategic solutions and work towards achieving a shared objective.  Our Year 6 students: Layla, Jai, Jax, Luka, Piper, and Matilda, embraced these challenges, gaining valuable leadership skills and, most importantly, refining their abilities through hands-on experience and teamwork.  We were very proud to have this awesome group of students represent our school.
